Shared hosting plans are designed for small school and organizations with little or no IT support or where a full server is too costly to host or maintain. This option is hosted on an existing server along with other shared hosted institutions.
Benefits
- Lower cost of ownership: the cost is shared by multiple organizations
- Many benefits of full hosting option, including IT support, daily backups, security measurements, etc.
Potential disadvantages
- Lower level of server control (e.g. you will not have access to the server at the operating system level).
- Possible performance degradation. Since the server is shared among multiple organizations, the usage by one can affect the overall performance of the server.
- Lower level of customization at the server level (e.g. you will not be able to install other tools on the server)
