Plan Navigator

The Plan Navigator is an administrative tool in RCampus Program Review, Assessment & Planning that provides a hierarchical view of all assessment plans across the institution. It serves as a central repository where assessment coordinators and accreditation administrators can find, access, and manage plans for any program or unit across all assessment cycles.

For a conceptual overview of the system, see RCampus Program Review, Assessment & Planning Overview.

Hierarchy

Plans in the Navigator are organized in the following structure:

  • Institution (e.g. campus or university system)
    • Unit (e.g. college or school)
      • Sub-unit (e.g. department)
        • Program or Administrative Unit (e.g. BS Computer Science, Office of Student Affairs)
          • Cycle (e.g. 2024–2025)

Each node in the hierarchy can be expanded to navigate down to individual programs and their assessment cycles. Clicking a cycle opens the plan for that program or unit for that period.

Access and Permissions

  • Assessment coordinators and accreditation administrators can view all plans in the hierarchy, edit planning elements, generate reports, and access the Planning Matrix for any program or unit.
  • Other users can view plans only after they have received full approval.
  • Access to the related Planning Matrix from within the Navigator depends on the user's assigned role — users may have editing or reviewing rights depending on their permissions.

Using the Plan Navigator

Accessing the Navigator

  1. From the main menu, select Planning > Plan Navigator
  2. Expand the institutional hierarchy to locate the desired program or unit
  3. Click on a cycle to open the plan for that period
  4. The plan and its components — such as goals, outcomes or objectives, results, and KPIs — are displayed

Accessing the Planning Matrix

Each plan in the Navigator links to its corresponding Planning Matrix, where contributors submit their work and reviewers evaluate submissions. If you have the appropriate permissions, you can navigate directly to the Planning Matrix from within the Plan Navigator.

Generating Reports

Assessment coordinators and accreditation administrators can generate reports directly from the Plan Navigator.

  1. Open any plan using the Plan Navigator
  2. Click the report icon in the top right corner
  3. Select from the available report options:
    • Export to Word — generates a Word document of plan narratives and sub-components. Enable Details first to include additional detail in the export; the report reflects the level of detail currently displayed on screen
    • Data / KPI — generates a KPI export for the selected plan

For institution-wide reporting across programs and units, see Program Review & Assessment Reports.

Initiating Plans from the Navigator

Assessment coordinators can initiate a new plan directly from the Plan Navigator without going through the Planning Matrix. This is useful when setting up plans in advance of deploying a matrix, or when managing plans for programs that do not yet have a matrix assigned.

Once a plan is initiated, it can be attached to a Planning Matrix cell so that end users such as program directors and department chairs can access it to enter their data.

See Program and Unit Planning & Assessment: Getting Started for the full setup sequence.
